40 oxygen concentrators have been delivered to date
SURAT: Amid the many examples of greed taking precedence over benevolence and corrupt people trying to take advantage of those caught in the grip of the deadly Covid pandemic, initiatives, like the one launched by a city NGO Chhanyado, will provide the much needed ray of positivity.
The NGO has created a bank of oxygen concentrators and plans to lend it for free to those in need.
Chhanyado had placed an import order for 100 oxygen concentrators, 40 of which have been delivered to date.
The NGO will lend to concentrators of community and primary health centers and isolation centers in rural areas. “Right now the cases in Surat town are low but in the future if a patient needs the concentrator during treatment or for post-processing procedures, we will lend it against a symbolic deposit amount, ”said Mehul Desai, member of the NGO’s advisory committee.
In addition to getting the concentrators for free, patients or their loved ones won’t have to run to get the machine. “Our men will take the concentrator to the patients’ homes and set it up. We will explain to patients how to operate. Once their need is over, our men will bring back the concentrators and return the money from the deposit to the patient, ”said Desai, whose grandfather founded Chhanyado.
“We will also be ordering larger concentrators that can be used in hospitals,” he added. Desai informed that his friends and other Good Samaritans in town helped him raise funds to buy the oxygen concentrators. Chhanyado donated 56 lakh food packets to Surat last year confinement.
