The NEW members of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons recently did their part in helping others in the midst of the pandemic by running a community pantry in Diliman.
CJ Cansino and Bismark Lina, formerly of the University of Santo Tomas, and the former Centro Escolar Scorpion University Malick Diouf joined UP coaches Mo Gingerich and Poch Juinio to distribute essentials to residents of neighboring communities.
The pantry was located at the gate to Quirino Avenue, near the UP Integrated School and the College of Home Economics.
“I am really delighted to meet the whole community since I transferred to UP, but unfortunately the safe opportunities for this are extremely limited in the current situation. There might not be any live games right now, but we can still help stimulate the spirit of the school by supporting the community, even in this simple way. My fellow rookies and I are proud to be Iskolars ng Bayan and to be a part of this Diliman community, ”said Cansino, a key member of the UST team who reached the Philippine University Athletic Association final at the event. season 82.
The community pantry, which was set up on May 5 and 12, was organized by the NowheretogobutUP Foundation and the non-profit organization Sama-Sama Tulong-Tulong.
Goods and fresh produce provided in the pantry came directly from farmers in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, to help the agricultural sector during this pandemic.
The UP Transport Group program also used the UP Transport Group, which transported goods from Bulacan to Diliman in order to provide its members with another source of income. – Michael Angelo S. Murillo
